I am Shana Rae, and my passion is the pursuit of knowledge and beauty, thereby growing wisdom and creativity. The name of this blog comes from Hortus Deliciarum, an illuminated encyclopedia finished in 1185 and apparently the first to be written by a woman.  “Philosophy and the Seven Liberal Arts” (Philosophia et septem artes liberales) is one of the most famous illustrations from the encyclopedia.

 

I love the arts and sciences, and I find the classical liberal arts a useful construct for intentionally pursuing knowledge.  This site is a place to explore works of art and science and to learn more about creativity and how to increase your own. I hope this space can help to nourish your creative soul, and I hope that together we can cultivate wisdom and creativity.
